SQL Developer (0199)

The Role

ED&F Man are looking for a SQL Developer to work as part of the Solutions Design & Development team. The candidate will use a variety of technologies to help deliver solutions to the business, improving operational processes and providing management information with a strong focus on adding value.

As an integral member of the team, the successful candidate will work mainly with the Solutions Architect but also the wider BI team.

The candidate will gain an understanding of the Company’s core data and processes. They will use their skills and experience as a SQL Developer to support the maintenance, extension and optimisation of our core data architecture.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to understand concepts and processes within a trading and supply chain business and apply this understanding to design discussions and agreed developments.


Duties to include, but are not limited to:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the core data strategy architecture
  • Support the Solutions Architect with regular system maintenance
  • Support the Solutions Architect in agreed developments
  • Ongoing learning of each business units physical and technical processes
  • Support and deliver optimised data extractions
  • Working with the wider BI team to deliver projects
  • Working with system-to-system integration tools
  • Assisting in management reporting / data delivery and presentation

Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive, strong / advanced SQL experience in a professional environment
  • Understanding of data integration issues (validation, cleaning and performance tuning), familiarity with complex data and structures
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills are required to support working in project environments that include internal, external and customer teams. Used to working within a team to accomplish joint goals.
  • Enthusiastic and adaptable with a practical approach to delivering real value to the business
  • Programming/scripting experience and knowledge of software development life cycle is preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, and assess and adjust quickly to changing priorities
  • Must be able to perform duties with moderate to low supervision
  • Knowledge of SSRS & Power BI

Established in 1783, ED&F Man is an employee-owned agricultural commodities merchant with 6,000 people in 60 countries and annual revenue in excess of $8bn.  We trade sugar, coffee, molasses, animal feed and pulses. We help our counterparties manage price risk through hedging and provide access to commodity and capital markets through our brokerage business.

We source, store, process, ship and distribute agricultural products including sugar, coffee, molasses, animal feed, grains and pulses. Each year we trade 11m bags of coffee, 11m tonnes of sugar and 6m tonnes of animal feed. We work closely with our customers and suppliers and help our counterparties manage price risk through hedging.
