Assistant Management Accountant (0198)

The Role

ED&F Man is one of the world’s leading traders of agricultural commodities.  We are recruiting a part qualified accountant to join our Divisional Reporting Team, which supports the worldwide sugar trading business which operates in over 20 countries managing sugar procurement, production and distribution. 

The Divisional Reporting Team supports global senior divisional management through the provision of high quality management information and analysis. 

We are recruiting an Assistant Management Accountant to assist with key team deliverables.  In particular:

  • Preparation of management performance reports and risk reports;
  • Assisting with the monthly divisional consolidation process, including ensuring the accurate submission of financial information from regional operations into Hyperion Financial Management and review and reconciliation of both entity submissions and consolidated divisional financial information;
  • Assisting with annual budget and mid-year forecast processes.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to join an experienced finance team, which will provide a strong platform to develop a career in a leading global agricultural commodities group.


  • Assist with preparation of monthly performance reports, incorporating a range of business metrics including P&L, headcount, balance sheet, capital usage and return metrics.
  • Prepare risk and stock reports.
  • Submit financial information from smaller regional entities into Hyperion Financial Management (HFM).
  • Review and analyse submissions and results from other regional business units, challenging information as required.
  • Assist with the division’s consolidation process using HFM and complete accurate, timely submissions to group finance team.
  • Assist with preparation of the division’s annual budget and mid-year forecasts.
  • Assist with the preparation of regular expense analysis and identify potential cost savings.
  • Become a HFM “super-user” and support the global Sugar Trading finance team with queries and submissions.
  • Proactively review processes in the team and identify opportunities to streamline and improve these.
  • Build strong working relationships with regional finance teams.
  • Support with ad hoc analysis and other deliverables as required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Part qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA) with practical finance experience
  • Strong analytical skills; does not accept information at face value and is able to question and challenge information in a collaborative way.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Takes initiative and with a proven record of identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Able to multi-task; prioritise and work flexibly and pro-actively in a small team.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent excel skills essential and experience of Hyperion Financial Management desirable.

We help our counterparties manage price risk through hedging and provide access to commodity and capital markets through our brokerage business.

We source or process raw, white and specialty sugars from over 40 producing countries. We sell to refineries, industrial users, wholesalers, retailers and consumers, offering local solutions though a  number of in-country purchasing, sales and distribution businesses. We have also invested in a food technology company to launch a stevia sweetener with the flavour and mouth feel of sugar.
