Compliance Assistant (0177)

The Role

This is an entry level role open to school leavers, new graduates or equivalent who are looking for a role in a global commodities business.

In this new role you will report to our Senior Compliance Officer to ensure our commodities business completes all necessary regulatory reporting and conducts the required screening in relation to financial sanctions regulations, money laundering, tax evasion, bribery and corruption.

You will work with managers, traders and our operations team as well as group departments, such as legal and risk.

What you will do here

  • Conduct the initial Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) screening for the compliance team and summarise findings for final sign off, the screening will cover:
    • Money laundering and bribery and corruption legislation
    • International financial sanctions regulations
    • Anti-Tax Evasion legislation
  • Complete daily reporting 
  • Arrange payment of compliance related invoices
  • Contract administration and reporting
  • Maintain data in the system
  • Carry out compliance research and document findings
  • Assist the Senior Compliance Officer in the creation of a Compliance Manual
  • Meeting minutes
  • Support training plans for new joiners in commercial teams, make sure they have completed all their compliance training, and check teams are trained on their compliance requirements
  • Make sure documents are:
    • Correct and complete
    • Stored securely
    • Accessible for internal and external audits

Skills & Qualifications

  • High level of attention to detail
  • Good level of numeracy skills
  • Confident with good communication skills yet can still work independently when needed and display a willingness to learn with an entrepreneurial approach
  • Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel knowledge

Established in 1783, ED&F Man is an employee-owned agricultural commodities merchant with 7,000 people in 60 countries and annual revenue in excess of $10bn.  We trade sugar, coffee, molasses, animal feed, grains and pulses. We help our counterparties manage price risk through hedging and provide access to commodity and capital markets through our brokerage business.

We source, store, process, ship and distribute agricultural products including sugar, coffee, molasses, animal feed, grains and pulses. Each year we trade 11m bags of coffee, 11m tonnes of sugar and 6m tonnes of animal feed. We work closely with our customers and suppliers and help our counterparties manage price risk through hedging.
